Restoring my hair, and myself

Hair, too, feels the passage of time. It is one of the first places where aging quietly makes its mark — strands may thin, lose their luster, or begin to fall, reflecting unstoppable changes within the body. This transition can be very personal. For many, hair is tied to identity, confidence, and self-expression. To some, losing hair can also mean losing their sense of self.
I’ve always worn my hair long. It’s more than just style — it’s a quiet declaration of my femininity. So when the strands began to fall, with my polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) expediting the process, it wasn’t just a cosmetic concern. It also felt like something intimate was slipping away.
My search for options led me to Clinique de Paris, a Makati clinic focused primarily on the hair. The clinic, which resembles a five-star hotel lobby, offers a plethora of treatments for transplant and restoration under the guidance of doctors who boast international credentials from London.
I underwent the platelet mesotherapy treatment, also known as Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy, which uses one's own blood—specifically the plasma rich in growth factors—to stimulate hair follicles and improve scalp health.
The process sounds Greek but is surprisingly simple: draw blood, spin it in a centrifuge, and reintroduce it to the scalp using a mesotherapy device that delivers practically painless micro-injections. And I say this as someone with a fear of needles: it just feels like being lightly pounded by finger nail. The entire procedure takes place on a chair.
The sessions are low maintenance. Every session, I wasn't allowed to wet my hair for the next 12 hours, but immediately, I was able to get back to my day.
Each session left its mark: fewer strands on my brush, thicker hair, and a quiet reminder of a transformation. By the third, the volume was visible.
Before and after
The change wasn't only physical.
It’s easy to dismiss hair treatments as vanity, but for me, this journey has been a form of self-care. Now, when I run my fingers through my hair, I feel a sense of privilege but also agency. Reclaiming a part of oneself holds its own kind of power.
